Financial Aid for Basic Needs
Who Qualifies?
Clarke County General Assistance provides emergency payment vouchers to needy and poor people who are ineligible for, or are in immediate need and are awaiting approval and receipt of, assistance under programs provided for by State or Federal Law, or whose actual needs cannot be fully met by the assistance furnished under such programs.
- Be a resident of Clarke County for the past 12 consecutive months.
- Provide Social Security Cards for all adults and children in the household.
- Provide Drivers License or State ID.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Meet current income and resource guidelines.
Kinds of Assistance Provided
Clarke County General Assistance provides assistance to people who need help with:
- Rent/Mortgage Assistance
- Utility Assistance (electricity, gas/propane, and water)
- Food Assistance
- Referrals to other agencies for assistance
This program is designed to provide short-term emergency type assistance to persons lacking the resources to meet their basic needs. It is not intended to provide on-going, long-term aid to any individual and/or family. Funds cannot be used for any utility or rent deposits. Funds cannot be used to reconnect utilities once disconnected.
How to Apply
Please call for an appointment. You will need to provide financial information such as documentation of income, Social Security Card, photo ID, bills that have been paid and any outside income beyond a job.
